I keep telling you to ask people things.
Ask people in your office what features they want on new software.
Ask your candidates about their experience.
Ask your employees if they’re actually using the sweet software you have.
I realized something: it’s pretty unfair of me to want you to ask all these things without suggesting ways you can accomplish those tasks better and more efficiently.
Woah, dudes, my bad.
Lemme just fix that right quick, shall I? Here’s a roundup of survey software I’ve recommended before. The best options, why they’re so cool, and what the people who’ve used them think about them.
This countdown features the top ten most popular survey software out there and compares their basic features, so you can make the most informed choice. You know, when you decide to take my awesome advice and start collecting more survey data.
SurveyNuts is simply designed, so you won’t get bogged down with tons of options when all you need is a one-time survey. Everyone loves the cloud, but what if the internet is patchy for your survey takers? QuickTap has the huge benefit of being available offline. That means that if you’re collecting survey data in person, you won’t be glued to hotspots.
QuickTap also lets you lock the survey onto a tablet so users can’t navigate away from the survey, saving time and confusion.
“We have been using this software to create data capture surveys for our clients for over 3 years now and have found the whole experience easy to understand and once the question types are fully understood very easy to use. We have created surveys in Russian, German and French although we are a UK company.”
“Our team loves it, and now with the Android App, our staff can go easily on the field completing surveys on the go. Great customer service, highly recommended!”
“We use the tablets more than SurveyMonkey or Google Survey due to its off-line usability, affordability, and easy to create questions and set-up process. Our office uses the product to capture data from learning workshops, events, data entries, and grant outcome measurements, such as Title III and AIHEC AIMS reporting. The tool and application is very user friendly.”

A widely capable web-based survey software. Not only does eSurveys offer unlimited, customizable surveys, it also provides a subscription package which unlocks white labelling, encryption security, and quality-checking tools to make sure your survey looks professional. You can also add an email list (ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 emails) so you can easily send out surveys en masse. This email system comes with an in-app management system, so you won’t be relying on pure integration to handle your emails.

This is one of those “checks all the boxes” kinds of softwares in that there are few features SoGoSurvey doesn’t have. That’s impressively diverse as an offering. It comes with a free basic version, including just about everything most surveys require anyhow, which is helpful, especially if you don’t survey often. SoGoSurvey also features some mildly gamified design elements, such as a progress bar indicating completion. The paid versions offer white labelling and an awful lot of customization.
“The software was super easy to use and offers a lot of functionality. The surveys are simple to build, distribute and it is straightforward to download the data.”
“I started using SoGoSurvey a few months ago, two things in particular have really impressed me 1) the features on the platform and 2) the customer support. The features are very easy to use and as your requirements increase SoGoSurvey already have the requirement ready to use. Also the inbuilt optimisation for mobile view is excellent and very important as these days most views are on a mobile device. The customer support which is delivered via Email is 1st class, timely, accurate and because it is delivered via Email a very good reference if need to remind how to do something very clever.”
“Their surveys give the option to the participants to skip some questions if they want to and if we want to, as well as an offer of different question types, guaranteeing that the survey will match our goals and, at the same time, it helps us towards the exact questions we want to know about.”

GetFeedback is specifically designed for mobile survey-takers (though you can access the surveys online from a regular old computer, too). The design is clean and ultra-modern, with a wide variety of customization options, most heavily image-based. You aren’t limited to yes-or-no or multiple choice questions, either. GetFeedback offers innovative designs like image selection, x-y placement grid charts, and sliding scales, so different questions can be answered in different, more fitting ways.

If you’re looking into survey software, you probably already know SurveyGizmo. SurveyGizmo comes with detailed customization and design options that can be simple as selecting a template or as complex as getting into nitty-gritty HTML and CSS for every little detail. If you have an in-house web designer, they’re going to have fun here with all the nitty-gritty customization options, but it isn’t inaccessible for the rest of us. If you create a lot of similar surveys, you’ll find the SurveyGizmo library function useful, because it allows you to collect your preferred (or self uploaded) themes, questions, and images. If you’re creating similar surveys regularly, you’ll quickly appreciate this feature.
“Very intuitive program for creating surprisingly complex and professional surveys! The email campaigns are a little more complicated but every time I send a question to customer service I get a fast and very thorough response (including screen shots.) I use the product with confidence that I will either be able to handle everything myself or they will go out of their way to help me get my survey and email campaign the way I need it, and fast! I highly recommend SurveyGizmo.”
“I really like using SurveyGizmo, it just seems so easy to use, to get around. I like everything about it – the colours, the styles, the icons and graphics, it’s so easy to copy an old survey, extract what you need from it for the new one and discard the rest. All of it just seems so intuitive, whether it’s adding logic to questions or creating reports from the completed responses, it’s neat! …Whenever I get stuck , thinking, is there a way to do this thing that would make it pretty cool for the public, then I have a look through the help pages where there’s lots of examples and the answers usually already there, like they’ve already pre-empted my needs! “
“While its power is as expected, SurveyGizmo is more user friendly than I had dare to hope. Support staff is superfluous, really, but they’re there when you do need them.”

Welcome to the illustrious top three most popular survey software! They’re here for a good reason: the following survey software all have a minimum of two million active users. The reporting is ridiculously comprehensive and robust, with a feature for anything you want to know about your data. For the talent and HR realm, you might be especially interested in their specifically designed employee engagement survey section. Their customer service gets rave reviews as well.
“I fell in love with Qualtrics after my first use. I seek out ways to use it at work – in many different forms. It took me no time to learn and the customer service is amazing when I get stuck!”
“I am extremely impressed with Qualtrics tech support. Staff are friendly knowledgeable and a go the extra mile to resolve issues and answer questions. On one occasions a support person worked with me for over an hour on the phone to make sure my survey was programmed correctly. I have never not received the help/answers needed when I call.”
“Qualtrics is much more than survey software. In fact, I use it for everything but surveys. I’ve begun the creation of Quick-Help support tool that is powered by Qualtrics. A user is taken down specific path based on his/her individual needs. After entering the needed information, emails are fired off to the people who can fulfill the user’s request. The ability to use Qualtrics as my own kind of ticket support system is crucial to fulfilling our users’ needs in a systematic and efficient way.”
QuestionPro is user friendly to the point of being a bespoke survey creation company. Seriously—while it isn’t their main focus, if you can’t figure out their software, they’ll build a survey for you. Talk about being user friendly!
QuestionPro offers a free basic version, but the pricing package is pretty darn reasonable for the number of features they offer. Reporting is quick and diverse. You want raw data? You can have raw data. You want an infographic? You can have an infographic. You want a word cloud? You can get a word cloud!
“Easy to use and get started. Loaded with features, and they also have pre-built templates to help get you started. If you cannot find what you need they can also help build the survey for you!”
“I have been using this tool for few years now and it never fell short of delivering any specific requirements for my surveys no matter how complex they were. A dedicated development team would take care of any custom questions or validation setup that you would like to have in your survey which may not be part of an already extensive list of question types and options that you get by default. “
“I am currently using QuestionPro to help casino marketing departments nationwide conduct their own satisfaction surveys, and other online consumer marketing research. Marketers with no training in survey taking are easily grasping how to use the survey software. QuestionPro is very easy to use, and the help sections are comprehensive yet simple to understand and follow. The reporting features are exactly what my clients’ marketing and executive teams need to understand the data quickly. Another impressive aspect of QuestionPro is that they solicit input from users to continually upgrade the product and adjust to changing demands and technology. The support team is super knowledgeable and friendly and virtually walked me through some challenging client issues. If you’re doing online surveys, QuestionPro has my vote as the best product you can choose. I can’t think of anything about QuestionPro that has been a negative for me.”
Come on—who did you expect to see in the top spot if not SurveyMonkey?
In my opinion, the best thing about SurveyMonkey is the ability to use their surveys for so many different purposes. Employee engagement, customer satisfaction, event planning, meeting planning… there is little you can’t create quickly and simply within an easily recognizable software. Your users are never going to be bewildered or confused, since it’s such a common program. Over two million customers and a huge social media presence place SurveyMonkey safely at the front of the pack.
“SurveyMonkey is extremely easy to use; you can create a survey and send it out same day. The analytics are easy to understand, complete with graphs, pie charts, and organized text boxes. We recently used SurveyMonkey for our annual peer reviews and it was so easy to see where our peers thought we excelled at, and where we could improve. Will continue to use for our business, both internally and externally.”
“SurveyMonkey came to the rescue 10 years ago by providing an online platform in which totally customised surveys could be quickly designed, deployed + monitored and followed-up easily and effectively. Clients were delighted with the information provided to them as feedback and workshop participants enjoyed comparing their own responses to those of other participants, and in large organisations, normed with other groups.”
“Creating new forms and surveys is hard, but with SurveyMonkey, you get a cute helper, and anyone can do it. No special knowledge or creativity required. Scales from one to thousands of respondents, and many tools to collect, sort, and process results too”
