Here’s the thing about database management software: it can be really expensive.

There’s also an audience review score, which can either reaffirm the views of the critics or provide a counter perspective.
As a big movie buff, I’m still cautious of what movies I see in theaters, largely because seeing a film in theaters is just so expensive now. Plus, I like the full experience of the overpriced popcorn and candy, so add $20 to the ticket price. It’s a lot.
So rather than spending my time and money on something subpar, Rotten Tomatoes helps me deem whether a film is worthy to see.
Similarly, software reviews hold the same strain of importance. Solutions can definitely cost more than a movie ticket and you can be stuck with them for a long time before having the budget to update. Then, you end up possibly shelling out even more cash because your first solution wasn’t satisfactory.
But with customer reviews, you can understand how software buzzwords translate into real life, and whether or not these solutions live up to their promises. Likewise, any negatives noted won’t be surprises to you.

Zengine promises a fully customizable solution, complete with a spreadsheet-like interface for user ease as well as a form builder and templates to help you craft your own system in under an hour. If you’re not comfortable with coding, this solution can guide you through the construction of your own business app. However, developers can still reap the benefits by using it as a platform for them to add and create additional plug-ins of their own and integrate other systems with Zengine. Popular integrated plugins include MailChimp, Slack, QuickBooks, and Twilio.
As with any cloud-based solution, a strong internet solution is necessary and users should be cautious of the security issues surrounding any cloud solution. Out of all the Capterra reviews, the only negative listed was that as a non-technical user, the database takes some time to understand all features and applications.
Zengine comes in three editions (Pro, Plus, Premium), that ascend in cost, number of users, records, and plugins. Pricing begins at $79/month and peaks at $299/month. A free trial is also available.
SQL Diagnostic Manager by IDERA (4 reviews)
This second database management software solution is perfect for both physical and virtual performance monitoring, and comes in SaaS, cloud, web-based, and installed deployment options.
One of this solution’s highlights is its ability “[i]dentify and monitor inefficient and poor performing SQL queries, batches, statements and stored procedures causing blocks and deadlocks.” Many Capterra reviewers note the software’s ability to help alleviate repetitive tasks and record histories of incidents to see its possible correlation with data. SQL Diagnostic Manager also includes a web dashboard that allows users to login from anywhere and create “individually configured dashboards” as well as integrate Microsoft’s System Center Operations Manager (SCOM).
One Capterra reviewer found the software lacking in accessibility to its users as well as a thread of slowness throughout many of their processes, which may have been due to a slow internet connection if they were using the cloud option.
SQL Diagnostic Manager is priced by license with packs in multiples of five, but includes volume discounts. While a small detail, one Capterra reviewer noted that “a cleaner, less cluttered interface would bring it in line with current website appearance.”
