Capterra Affiliate Linking Policy

Capterra’s blogs aim to be useful to small business software buyers. Capterra participates in vendor affiliate, referral, and pay-per-click programs where available. This means after a content piece is written by our researchers, our affiliate manager converts existing mentions of vendors into affiliate links where possible and adds PPC links where appropriate. When readers click on those links, sometimes we make a small commission and when they make purchases, sometimes we earn an affiliate fee. That said, we do not accept free products or services from vendors in exchange for mentioning them on the site.

No Capterra blogs or blog posts are sponsored by vendors; further, our writers independently choose which vendors to cover and what to write about them. In fact, most of our writers are unaware of Capterra’s affiliate relationships.

If you have any questions about Capterra’s affiliate policy, including our impartiality or how to get your affiliate links on our editorial content, please email cathy@capterra.com.

Updated 11/20/2017: This piece has been updated to include up-to-date features lists, pricing, and beer tastes.

Sometimes I don’t want to go with the crowd. For example, while it seems like the beer-drinking community in Washington D.C. is breaking their neck to get on the IPA train, I prefer to drink lagers, pilsners, and stouts. Hops, while tasty, do have a limit.

Right now, Blackbaud is like the IPA of donor management and fundraising software.

Blackbaud is quality software; in fact, it is number one on our Top 20 Most Popular Nonprofit Software list. The one issue with Blackbaud is the cost. Blackbaud, like many large software vendors, doesn’t offer their pricing on their website, which can be indicative of a relatively high price tag.

According to NTEN’s Consumer’s Guide to Low-Cost Donor Management Systems, Raiser’s Edge NXT by Blackbaud can cost thousands of dollars each year, including thousands more in upfront fees.

However, there are less expensive alternatives to pay attention to as well. If Blackbaud isn’t the right system for you, here are the top five alternatives you should consider for managing donations to your nonprofit.

Software options in this list all have a 4-star rating or higher in Capterra’s software directory, and none of them exceed $1,000 a month for their priciest option. Software options are listed in alphabetical order.

1. Bloomerang

via Bloomerang

Bloomerang is a relatively new fundraising and donor management system that was founded in 2012 and has since made a name for itself. Right off the bat, Bloomerang excels above Blackbaud in available features, particularly mobile giving and prospective donor management. In an increasingly connected market, mobile features are becoming more of a necessity than a luxury feature.

Bloomerang also edges out Blackbaud in terms of price and Capterra user rating, making it a formidable contender.

2. DonorPerfect

via DonorPerfect

DonorPerfect sits at number four in our “most popular” nonprofit software list.Where it shines is the loaded features list, which includes mobile capabilities, social media management, and even peer-to-peer fundraising. It also helps that several reviewsfor DonorPerfect rave about their quality tech support and ease of use. The only thing to keep in mind about that support is that it costs an extra $99 dollars a month.

3. DonorSnap

via DonorSnap

DonorSnap is an affordable and versatile Blackbaud alternative that puts a premium on user experience. This emphasis comes in the form of free training and free support for as long as you use the software.

DonorSnap has mobile access features and also integrates with other third-party tools such as Intuit Quickbooks and Accelerated Payments to create a streamlined experience.

Their least expensive version will only set your organization back $39 a month, which makes them the most affordable software on this list.

4. NeonCRM

via NeonCRM

NeonCRM is a highly functional fundraising and donor management system that makes up for its lower ranking on our “most popular” list with an extensive features list and quality software support, according to several reviews on Capterra. Poor support is one of the top three reasons users dump their nonprofit software, so it is great to see NeonCRM take support so seriously.

NeonCRM also offers many different integrations, including QuickBooks and SurveyMonkey, making it easier for your organization coordinate your fundraising efforts with your data.

Software type: Web-based

Key features

  • Fundraising and donor management

5. Salesforce For Nonprofits

via Salesforce

Salesforce may not have made the “most popular” nonprofit software list, but it is themost reviewed online CRM software on Capterra, it has a hefty features list, and the pricing is hard to pass up. Their Salesforce for Nonprofits software includes mobile access, unlimited online training, and unlimited free support on top of the base fundraising management features.

I gave the “most affordable software” nod to DonorSnap despite the Salesforce Enterprise edition currently sitting at $36 a month. While this is three dollars cheaper than the DonorSnap option, this pricing is presented as a price cut and may only be temporary.

Software type: Web-based

Key features

  • Fundraising and donor management
  • Event management
  • Grants management
  • Membership management
  • Volunteer management
  • Mobile access
  • Unlimited online training
  • Unlimited free support

Pricing

(While Salesforce is typically a more expensive option than the other software on this list, they are currently advertising a sale)

  • Lightning Enterprise Edition: $150 originally, now $36/month
  • Lightning Unlimited Edition: $300 originally, now $72/month

Capterra rating4/5 stars

Don’t forget Araize’s FastFund Online, the only SaaS solution that seamlessly integrates nonprofit fund accounting, fund raising and payroll in a single system.

I think its important to note that Salesforce provides their Salescloud product for free to 501 c 3 non profit organizations (up to 10 licenses) which is valued at $15,000 a year. The Non Profit Success Pack is included in this and provides a variety of ways to manage donors and their relationships, donations & acknowledgements. Volunteers for Salesforce, a free app, is now included in this, so they provide a way to manage volunteers as well.
