Update 11/28/2017: This article has been updated to include an additional software solution and remove another that no longer met our criteria.

The great thing about hospitality is that it’s often free. Just think about all the times friends and family have invited you over and offered food, encouragement, and advice free of charge.

While the hospitality industry is a little less selfless, it operates on a similar concept: excellent service, something that should always accompany a hotel stay, no matter the room cost.

Hotel management software aims for this same level of excellence. Some solutions achieve this by providing outstanding support or a user-friendly interface. Most software provides such services for an associated cost or fee. Others—like your friends—offer it for free.

Sadly KWhotel is not free, it’s a 40 day demo. Or can you provide me a full free version?

Hi Pycur! Thanks for leaving a comment!

There are actually three different versions of KWHotel (free, standard, and pro) for you to choose from, with the standard and pro versions requiring payment. I’ve linked to the free version in my post, so it should take your right to the page where you can download KWHotel Free without charge.

Hi Jennifer,

And it is great that those who wants to try using hotel management software can download these free and open source hotel management software, even if it has some limitations/ user restrictions its still great to use, but if you are looking for more full featured hotel management software where you can ensure security in your business paid software are more recommended to use, right? 🙂

Hi, are there any open source property management solutions you are aware of?

Hi Isaac,

In your case, I would check out our real estate management blog, which I also write for. Haven’t had the chance to write about open source property management there yet, but be sure to subscribe to the newsletter so you can know exactly when the post goes up.

Hope that helps!

Hello, there!
I’m kati and, unfortunately, I can’t download the free version of the kwhotel, I’ve already tried more than once to download it, but it was useless, the download stops at 99%, what should I do? I’m pretty sure it doesn’t depends on my internet connection, so could you, please, help me?
thanks a lot

Hi kati,

I would recommend getting in touch with the support team over at KWHotel. Perhaps they might be able to help solve the downloading problem you have. They have a contact page on their main site as well as a FAQ page that could have some answers for you.

Hey All

We have a free for life account – which is not open source (There’s a difference in being Free and Open Source)

Check it out and please let me know if you have any questions

Dear Jennifer,

We are looking to source a Hotel Management System for a 60 room hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. I am wondering if you have heard of a company called SlimTrader and their Hotel Management Platform called, Mobiashara? It is currently in development but they approached us claiming that ‘None of our competitors are tailoring their solution for sub Saharan African hotels. Our sub Saharan African focus is delivering a one stop SaaS platform for hotels that gives us a competitive advantage’. Do you have a view on both the platform and their claim?

This is very helpful as my tribe, Croatan Oyate, starts out with an RV Park. We need something to handle bookings for the spaces, and meal and other charges during their stay with us. Thanks for this effort.
– Wasaka

What about CloudHotelier?

Hi Jennifer,

My company is running a residential camp. which contains 7000 rooms in 3 different categories. Can you please suggest any Hotel Management Software Solutions for my requirement?

what about hotelDruid it seems a good solution but ther’s no one interesting by this solution?

Thanks for publishing this useful list. The content is very helpful. I am using GoFinix free hotel accounting software. Believe me, they provide amazing free services. Their freeware software comes with free SMS alert, email alert and much more. Visit and try it.

I managed my room availability with a smart excel sheet and happy with it .
I want to export the rooms availability to Booking, EXPEDIA for updating in these platforms. I need some open source to customize this transfer of info from excel to BOOKING/EXPEDIA.

Any suggestion ?

I find RoomRaccoon’s ForeverFree PMS to be very helpful. It’s easy to use and completely free:

Hi there,

I am using KWHotel Pro for 3 years now as a PMS and i am absolutely impressed with the new updates. Every day it gets better and more easier to use.
As a channel manager i am using YieldPlanet for the three months and until today i have no problem, availability is automatically updated in seconds in up to 10 OTA’s.
Of course both are paid versions, although not a so high cost compared to other software’s.
